Surf Hotel is a modern space that lives out the heart of the Wild West like few other destinations. This venue is all about working with couples to give them a happily ever after customized entirely to them. As a Colorado wedding photographer, I am blessed enough to go all across this state, finding the venues I know my clients will love. If you have been considering a Surf Hotel wedding, here’s everything you need to know!
About The Surf Hotel Wedding Venue
1012 Front Loop, Buena Vista, Colorado 81211
Located just two hours outside of Denver, Surf Hotel was a spot that was designed to stick out in all the right ways! This hotel is located in teensy Buena Vista alongside the Arkansas River. Just outside the doors, you’ll find a historic town dating back to the 1860s. Much of the original architecture can be found on every corner, giving you photo-ready backdrops throughout your wedding day.

In addition to their high-end accommodations, Surf Hotel is dedicated to giving you a wedding weekend you’ll never forget. You can check out decadent food, saltwater soaks, and live music from major bands. With their exceptional team, this spot is going to make sure your adventure lives up to the highest expectations!

Details of the Grounds
The Surf Hotel features several buildings across its property, including the primary Surf Hotel, the Surf Chateau, the Surf House, and the South Main Residences. All of these spots are perfect for reserving a private space where you can get ready alongside your party before it’s time for your wedding to begin. All of the rooms are bright and sunny with large windows that overlook Buena Vista. Many offer access to private balconies where you can show off your completed wedding look before it is time to exchange your vows.

For those who prefer an outdoor wedding, you can say your I do’s in the courtyard. This space is positively stunning with a rustic stone gate that will offer total privacy. On one side, you’ll have the hotel, while the other will give you a working fireplace perfect for the colder months. Another option for a ceremony site will be the French-inspired plaza. Out here, young aspens line the aisle while a stone archway at the front gives you a unique altar. Both of these spaces are intimate with enough space for up to 150 guests.

If you would prefer something inside, you can host your ceremony in the Ivy Ballroom. If you love dark and moody interiors, this spot is a dream! The room features high ceilings with walls painted a deep shade of teal. Crystal chandeliers illuminate the space, adding a bit of vintage sophistication amidst the modern decor. This area is also able to host up to 150 guests.

Everything After Your Surf Hotel Wedding Ceremony
Once it is time for your cocktail hour, your guests can head over to the riverfront patio, where they can enjoy signature drinks along with a view.
Finally, your evening will conclude inside the Ivy Ballroom. The open floor plan gives you the ability to arrange your party however you’d like while still offering plenty of space to dance! They can also easily accommodate a stage for your entertainment. While this space looks fabulous no matter your decor, it looks particularly divine amidst wintery jewel tones. The large French windows on the side will ensure you can celebrate the view even when you are indoors!

Photography Opportunities
With Surf Hotel, you are going to have countless spots where you can take your wedding photos. The hotel rooms are lovely and bright, giving you the best spot to capture some candid moments as you get ready alongside your wedding party. Once you have on your gown, you can choose from balconies and staircases so you can show off that train.

There are so many optimal spots for your first look portraits, but I’m partial to the archways in the plaza. The high, stone openings will give you a perfectly dramatic backdrop as you get a glimpse of each other ahead of your wedding day.

Following your ceremony, you can stick around your wedding site and grab some group portraits with your friends and family. From there, I highly suggest heading just outside the hotel, where you can find some truly legendary backdrops! The entire town of Buena Vista is charming, giving you historic buildings nestled in front of the mountains. Once you are done there, you can head out to the surrounding fields, where you can share a kiss with the mountains and the forests on prominent display.
