Long before it got into the wedding business, this location played a pivotal part in American history, housing 15,000 American soldiers leading up to World War II. They used this space to train for extreme conditions, learning how to mountain climb and brave the frigid temperatures they would likely experience abroad.
The army commissioned the creation of a ski corps, utilizing the hills of Vail to prepare the troops. The area was decommissioned following the end of the war, but it remained a favorite spot for the locals. The site has lived several lives since then and was designated a National Landmark in 2022.
